This is the traditional installation method for most flooring, especially hardwood flooring. The nail down method allows the opportunity to have a custom hardwood floor installation with borders and patterns on site.
Not all flooring is designed for this type of installation because this method works best over an existing old floor or over a concrete slab. Usually, an engineered floor, laminate floor or a pre-finished hardwood floor is installed with this method.
In accordance with the National Wood Flooring Association, all hardwood flooring over 5” in width should be glued down when installed. If possible, E_M Custom Flooring & Installation prefers to glue AND nail larger planks for a tighter installation.
Simply put, the flooring material snaps together and does not require nails or glue. With hardwood flooring, there is a cushioned under-layer installed to make the floor sound less hollow and more comfortable to walk on.
