Has the time come to have new floors installed, but you don’t know where to begin? That’s where the experts at E_M Custom Flooring & Installations come in. We have many customers return to us for new flooring projects since they know that despite this being a somewhat challenging process, our company professionals make it manageable from start to finish. From the initial consultation through to completion, we carefully walk you through each step so you will know what to expect.
One of the biggest concerns our customers have is how much disruption this will cause in their home. Be assured that our dustless equipment and environmentally friendly finishes will keep your home clean and free of dust while avoiding harm to the environment. While performing custom floor installations, we always section off the work area before getting started on the project. We will cover any essential fixtures, such as cabinets with plastic so they won’t get damaged, all of which is a part of our Customer Service Promise that we take very seriously. Upon completion, we also take time to provide you with maintenance tips for caring for your new flooring.
First Step – Visit Our Showroom
Our Long Island showroom provides hundreds of style series from trusted brands such as Bona, Shaw, Mirage and so much more. You’ll find selections for hardwoods, vinyl, laminate and exotics including high-ranking stains and finishes. We work with many homeowners, business owners and interior designers, all of whom have the same goal, to have beautiful and long lasting floors installed. Our design consultants will ask you important questions about the location of the room where you need new flooring, since kitchens and bathrooms need flooring that can withstand getting wet. If you have an open floor plan and need more coverage, it will affect the type of flooring style that you ultimately choose.

Our Expert Installers
Rest assured that our installers are trained professionals with years of experience in installing, refinishing, and repairing flooring. These craftsmen continue to stay abreast of the latest news and gain additional knowledge about state of the art installation techniques. They are also skilled in bringing hardwood floors back to life with special treatment and care. E_M Custom Flooring & Installations is well known in the area for having experts who are skilled in bringing hardwood floors back to life with special treatment and care, no matter how much wear and tear they have experienced.
Installation Methods of Flooring
Nail Down
This is the traditional installation method for most flooring, especially hardwood flooring. The nail down method allows the opportunity to have a custom hardwood floor installation with borders and patterns on site.
Glue Down
In accordance with the National Wood Flooring Association, all hardwood flooring over 5” in width should be glued down when installed. If possible, E_M Custom Flooring & Installation prefers to glue AND nail larger planks for a tighter installation.
Floating Floors
Not all flooring is designed for this type of installation because this method works best over an existing old floor or over a concrete slab. Usually, an engineered floor, laminate floor or a prefinished hardwood floor is installed with this method, but our experts can of course help you to decide if this type of flooring will fit your needs.
Snap Together
Simply put, the flooring material snaps together and does not require nails or glue. With hardwood flooring, there is a cushioned under-layer installed to make the floor sound less hollow and more comfortable to walk on.
Did You Know? Tips for Success
- Have a trained craftsman lay down your new wood floor. In case any problems arise while the floor is being installed, this experienced installer will know how to handle things appropriately, saving you time, money and aggravation.
- It is essential that the humidity and temperature level is under control before your floors are delivered. The floor’s moisture content must be even with the subfloor and complete job site.
- Be sure that your wood floor is acclimated for a minimum of 3 days prior to installation.
- You can also refer to the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) Guidelines for additional peace of mind.
